iOS: Move Contacts Between Address Books

This posts isn't for those who only use one address book on their IOS device. I, for example have two different address books on my iOS device. The first is my private iCloud address book with personal contacts. For my work I have an Exchange account, with the associated Exchange address book. This works fine when you're NOT creating contacts on the iOS device.

Why? Because you don't have an option to select a destination address book per entry. There is a global setting (default address book) in the iOS settings. In almost every other (iCloud) enabled app you have the possibility to select the destination. The most important being;

  • Calendar
  • Reminder

So, if I want to add a business contact I need to check in the general setting which address book is selected by default, and possibly change that. After that I can add the contact to that particular address book.... A hassle to say the least.

But today, a colleague pointed out the Orbi Tools app (FREE!!!!) by SingularLogic for iOS. This too is basically intended for a service they provide, but it works also on the iCloud, local address books and Exchange accounts.

Orbi Tools for the iPhone is a utility developed primarily to simplify the process of importing your address book contacts from your iPhone to your Orbi account.

Orbi Tools allows you to import and export to and from other address books like Gmail and Microsoft Exchange.

Orbi is a personal information manager specifically designed for the freelancer professional and is provided in a subscription based model.

In order to use the Orbi Tools application you do not need to have an Orbi account however we encourage you to give it a try for free at www.orbi.gr

Just launch the app, select the option you need (copy, move, delete, or create). Select the source address book, select the entries you need to move, and select the destination address book. That's all folks.
